Abby Simmons Byrd, RVT

Abby has a rich history of experience with large and small animals that started at a young age and continued through the Veterinary Technician program at Purdue University. She has had 30+ years of diverse career opportunities within the realms of academia, research, and the medical device industry. These include, but are not limited to, experiences with: Veterinary Imaging Consultants (CH2), The University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine, Purdue University Department of Biomedical Engineering, ACELL, INC., WITKO INC. Throughout her career, Abby has served in veterinary clinics, regulatory field, biomedical engineering, and medical device industry which have led to the successful completion of non-clinical animal studies, over 22 peer-reviewed publications, and the launching of products into the market that have bettered the health and lives of both humans and animals.    

In July 2024, mentors Cheryl Hurd and Connie Han decided to retire the Veterinary Imaging Consultants business and close its operation. This has led Abby to establish Prairie View VetScans. LLC. which will continue to provide mobile veterinary ultrasound services to clinics in the Indiana area.

Abby married her husband, Ron, in 1990 and has since lived in Brookston, Indiana. Together, they have three children, a son-in-law, and two grandsons. They lovingly raise a small herd of Limousin cattle, an operation of 4-H pigs, and two Labrador retrievers.
